Argentine Tango in PasadenaDear Friends and Students:As usual next Wednesday we will have our Tango class, I will continue working on milonguero steps, turns and figures, these particular movements are small and unnoticed to most people, they are very subtle and difficult to learn but the most important thing is that your dance partner will notice them. I call this Tango Class ” Así se Baila el Tango” (Tango is danced like this) Don’t Forget to Bring a Friend!!!!! Milonguero Style, Saloon Style ( and Stage!!) I found this article very interesting http://www.tejastango.com/tango_styles.html In Tango as I always say in the first class you have basically three styles… and a half!! To me they don’t contradict themselves, each one has its purpose and pros and cons Lets Start with Salon style some people call it Villa Urquiza Style. This is very elegant style, big long steps, big embrace, you need of course space, it is used mostly in competition and exhibitions. You have to master good balance since turns are made in one leg. I like it is very nice but if you want to go dance in a crowded space it is very difficult . We can practice some but this is not what basically I teach in my class. Stage uses everything milonguero, salon, jumps ,figures, acrobatic movements, if you are in your 20’s or in great shape do it, it is a lot of fun and a good exercise!!!. If you are old like me you can do it too but just for fun and don’t hurt yourself. We always try some in my class in the second part to have some fun but as I always said you are not supposed to do it in a crowded dance floor, you can do it in a practica though. We do some salon too in the second part of the class. The half is what I called the Neo tango o electronic Tango, is fun, nice big circling movements, fashion and cool, I say it is like dancing Salsa, you can not dance it all night will make you tired and sweaty. Last one, the one I try to teach is the milonguero style, in the class we mix a little of everything so you can taste it all, we practice open embrace though milonguero is closed embrace, I always say once you master the open embrace and the walking the close embrace will come easily. That’s the idea. Milonguero is the one that is danced mostly in crowded milongas in Buenos Aires since you need little space you use closed embrace, and you do turns in both legs. In general outside Argentina people dance Salon and Stage since is what is showy and most performers that travel teaches. The milongueros don’t travel much so they stay in Buenos Aires that is why milonguero style is very hard to find to learn outside Argentina and that is what you will learn mostly in my class I consider it a privilege. I always insist in the walking I have to be honest a lot of people think the walk, but they don’t or they just are half way to it. I notice people that come to my class from other teachers have to re do their walking, some accept it but other may feel uncomfortable with that, but to me is the way it is. Without any further I wait for you guys on Wednesday! and down forget to BRING A FRIEND!!! See you at Class!! Fernando Our Practi-Class is called: “Así se Baila el Tango!!” (Tango Song) (“Tango is Danced like this” -This time Estela Translated) I never get tired of watching the initial trailer with the song in this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ovbyZHsAY Movement is Life!!
